Old ticket office at Skirwith Cave
Skirwith was once a showcave which closed in 1974 due to rockfalls caused by vibration from the nearby Ingleton quarry. I think I may have visited as a child - we certainly visited all the other Dales showcaves and most of the Peak District ones too. I am certain that I made a solo trip to the far end of the cave during the 1980s and recall that many odd features such as iron handrails disappearing into boulder falls. On this occasion I was not able to locate the current entrance which appears to be further up the slope LinkExternal link .
