taken 22 years ago, near to Ystumtuen, Ceredigion/Sir Ceredigion, Wales

Remains of Cae-cynon lead mine
Remains of Cae-cynon lead mine
Viewed across Cwm Rheidol. Two of the mine cottages have been restored from semi-dereliction and are now comfortable homes. The old mine waste tip is seen above the house on the left. Cae-cynon is an ancient mine but was revived in the years 1853 to 1875 when 371 tons of lead ore and 700 tons of zinc blende were mined. At one time, it was claimed that the mine contained recoverable amounts of gold, but nothing came of it.
