TA3427 : Withernsea railway station (site), Yorkshire
taken 6 years ago, near to Withernsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, England
Withernsea railway station (site), Yorkshire
Opened in 1854 by the Hull & Holderness railway, later part of the North Eastern Railway, as the terminus of the line from Hull Victoria Docks (Hull Paragon from 1864). The station closed to passengers in 1964 and completely in 1965.
View north east along the edge of the former main platform, towards the buffers. The non-railway building on the far right (it had been the stable block for the former station hotel) appears on a number of old photographs of the station. The main station building had been across the road from it, covering the low, red wall. A short length of platform was still extant when this image was taken, just behind the car that is facing the camera position.
