Listed as a grotto, although it does not have the internal passages normally associated with 19th century grottoes. Created as a viewpoint on the lake side in 'picturesque' style. Part of the Grade II* Listed Garden created by William Barron between 1830 and 1860, but separately Listed Grade II for group value.
