The red-brick Neo-Gothic Convent of Mercy, Downpatrick
Located on the St Patrick Catholic Parish Church campus, the Convent of Mercy, built to house a community of the Dublin-founded Sisters of Mercy, was designed in the Gothic Revivalist style by Mortimer H Thompson of Belfast. The Convent built in 1873 closed because of the shortage of vocations in the year 2011. The nuns played a prominent part in the provision of education in Downpatrick.
