Over the vestry door SJ9497 : Detail above the vestry door is a block of stone from the original building with date "1707" and the names of two benefactors of the chapel, Elizabeth and James Heywood. Below their names is inscribed a reminder of the date of the present building AD 1839.
Old Chapel, Dukinfield

The first Unitarian Chapel, built here in 1707, was irreparably damaged by a storm in 1839. Stones from the old chapel were used as the foundations for the present building which was opened on 26th August 1840. It is Grade II* listed LinkExternal link
