DWTE - Waste to Energy
The Dublin Waste-to-Energy Facility, also known as the Poolbeg Incinerator is located on the Poolbeg peninsula and serves the Greater Dublin Area. The Dublin plant, operated by US company Covanta, will treat up to 600,000 tonnes of waste annually, providing electricity for 80,000 homes and district heating for upwards of 50,000 homes. The shape of the building has been designed to enclose the entire waste to energy process within a single structure, thus minimising noise. Construction work for the plant started in 2014 and the plant took its first delivery of waste on 24 April 2017 (LinkExternal link The Journal).
