Ireland in Ruins: Moore Hall, Co. Mayo (1)
The once magnificent, but still impressive Moore Hall, now sadly in ruins after needlessly fired by anti-treaty forces in 1923. Built during the 1790s by George Moore, a wealthy wine merchant to a design attributed to John Roberts of Waterford. The Moores were an English settler family who had converted to Catholicism following the marriage of John Moore to Mary Lynch Athy of Galway.
