Castle Gore is described as a three storey over basement country house, built 1789-92 for James Cuff MP. Like so many fine houses of this period, it was burnt in 1922 during the Civil War, and suffered again during the 1950s when the local authority unsuccessfully tried to demolish it using dynamite.
