Castles of Connacht: Moyne, Mayo - revisited (1)
This round-cornered castle was probably built by one of the McWilliam Burkes in the late C15, later passing to the Barretts. It's the third and last extant castle in the area that was built close to the Black River. It commands the Moyne Bridge over the river. The 3m thick east wall contains a number of chambers reached by a spiral stair, whilst the second storey has a fireplace in the north wall of the main room, and a latrine in the SE corner.
