Bermingham House, Co. Galway (1)
Originally the seat of the Bermingham family, this square-plan 3 bay two-storey country house was built c.1760, or possibly earlier, as another account states it was built in 1730 for John de Bermingham, Earl of Louth and 15th Baron of Athenry. It's one of the more interesting Galway country houses, retaining many notable features such as original lime render, timber sash windows, and a good limestone doorcase. In more recent times it was the home of the legendary Lady Mollie Cusack Smith (1905-1998) LinkExternal link and where Mick Jagger and his former lover Marianne Faithfull once stayed in 1968. With thanks to Mollie's daughter Oonagh Hyland, the present owner, for permission to photograph.
