The Jack Lynch Tunnel (Irish: Tollán Sheáin Uí Loingsigh) is an immersed tube tunnel LinkExternal link . It is an integral part of the N40 southern ring road of Cork taking the road under the River Lee. Named after former Taoiseach, Jack Lynch, a native of Cork, the tunnel was completed in May 1999 and, in 2015, it was carrying an average of 63000 vehicles per day.

The tunnel has two cells, the southbound and northbound bores, and a central bore for emergency use. Pedestrians and cyclists are prohibited from using the tunnel.
The N40 Road in Ireland

The N40 road (commonly known as the Cork South Ring Road) is an Irish national primary road which forms an orbital route around the south side of the city of Cork, linking the N22 at Ballincollig to the N25 at the Dunkettle Interchange.
