Skerry off Kame
This is the final outcrop of Walls Formation of Middle Old Red Sandstone (Devonian) age, here dipping steeply to the northeast, the view looking eastwards towards the skerries north of Hildasay which are composed of Granodiorite of the Spiggie Plutonic Complex. Somewhere between (probably quite close offshore) lies the Walls Boundary Fault which is effectively part of the Great Glen fault of mainland Scotland. The Walls formation along this part of the coast has eroded into many such skerries, with caves and arches in the cliffs behind, making it an attractive prospect for sea kayakers - especially as it is relatively sheltered from the weather and swell, which mainly comes from the west.
