The winding road through Borrowdale
This is looking south along the B5289 where it narrows past Castle Crag between Grange and Rosthwaite. There are a number of benchmarks on this section of road, but the road is narrow and winding, mostly lacking any footway. However, here there is a little bit of sanctuary, and there is a benchmark on the rock lower right in the photo NY2516 : Benchmark after much scraping.
The rather improbable Bowder Stone is a lump of andesite which probably fell from the crags above, although the erratic explanation still has supporters. There is exposed granite in Borrowdale as well.
