Public Library, North Street, Keighley
Grade II Listed Library. Advantage was taken of the festive atmosphere of the 1902 Coronation Day to celebrate the memorial stone-laying ceremony at Keighley’s Carnegie Free Library. It was the first public library in England to be funded by Andrew Carnegie and opened to the public in 1904. An extension was added in 1961. The building was fully refurbished for £1.1M in 2007, with many original features restored, and improvements made to lighting, heating and internal layout. By 2016 the roof was in need of £114K worth of repairs. Pevsner describes North Street as the only memorable street in Keighley and the Library as 'Nicely grouped in the free Baroque version of Tudor typical of its date...'
