Stranded water lily, Cors Caron
Stranded water lily, Cors Caron
A water lily on the cracked peat at the bottom of one of the dried-up lakes in Cors Caron nature reserve after several weeks of hot, dry weather in the summer of 2018. This shows the strong but flexible petioles (stalks) of the normally floating leaves attached to the root of a cluster. Several such clusters are connected by strong horizontal roots Link on the bottom of the lake. I wonder if the leaves are able to re-float once they have touched the ground.
