Rugeley (Penkridge Bank) Camp - Centenary Pear Tree
Cannock Chase was used during the Great War as a location for two 20000 man training camps. Although the wooden camp buildings were sold and removed after the war their foundations remain. One of the more unusual features are a small number of self sown fruit trees in the disturbed ground of the camp areas. Fruit trees can live up to 200 years. These are best seen when they crop in the late summer.
