Close-up of the attached Turnbull frame for mounting a machine gun cradle. The Turnbull mount is the small square frame with pivots that normally would be fitted to an embrasure just as it is, a cradle for the MG could then be attached to the pivots of the frame. In order to convert the pillbox from an AT position to a MG, the Turnbull frame had first to be fitted to a pair of steel bars that were then bolted onto the outside as shown. It was a crude arrangement that at the time could only have been in the interests of wartime expediency.
