St Aidan's church, Hellifield
Hellifield was not much more than a hamlet until the railway arrived in the 1860s and then grew rapidly. The spiritual needs of the workers and their families were met by nonconformist chapels until the established church in lumpy 'free Gothic' style finally arrived in 1905; it is Grade-II listed: LinkExternal link .
