Walthamstow Central is a London Underground and London Overground interchange station located in the town of Walthamstow. On the Underground network it is the northern terminus of the Victoria line. On the Overground it is on the Chingford branch of the Lea Valley lines, 6 miles from London Liverpool Street between St. James Street and Wood Street.
The station is in Travelcard Zone 3. It is a short walk from Walthamstow Queen's Road station on the Gospel Oak to Barking line by means of a dedicated footpath known as Ray Dudley Way. The station opened in 1870.
The London Underground system is also known as the "Tube". It is the oldest underground system in the world, the first section dating from 1863. The present system has over 250 miles of track and 272 stations. There are 11 lines covering Greater London, Essex, Buckinghamshire & Hertfordshire. Nearly half the system is above ground.
