Basingstoke Canal: Pondtail Basin or Winding Hole
Basingstoke Canal: Pondtail Basin or Winding Hole
This basin is shown on the south side of the canal, and on the east side of Pondtail Bridge, on the large scale Ordnance Survey map of 1871, long before any other development took place. The basin seems longer and narrower now than is shown on that map. It may have been a wharfing point or a winding hole where long narrowboats could be turned.
