Spirit of Scotland sculpture
Spirit of Scotland sculpture
It looks from here as though William Wallace has smashed through the steel of this sculpture, leaving in the metal an outline of his form. The inscription on this five metre high structure (sculptured by Richard Price) reads: 'Thou saw'st the strong arm of a Wallace raised to stem the tide of alien tyranny.' Dating from 2004 this memorial commemorates two battles fought nearby during the Scottish Wars of Independence, one led by William Wallace in 1297 and the other by Robert the Bruce in 1307.
