taken 6 years ago, near to Milton Combe, Devon, England

Buckland Abbey [12]
Buckland Abbey [12]
The main house, seen through an archway in the garden wall.
A Cistercian Abbey, it was founded in 1278, one of the latest in England and the most westerly. The church is late 13th and early 14th century. After the dissolution the abbey was converted into a house, unusually it was the church that was converted and the other buildings demolished. Now in the care of the National Trust it is presently a museum. The main house is listed, grade I, and there is much detail at: LinkExternal link
The abbey complex is a Scheduled Ancient Monument with 12 listed buildings within. There is much detail at: LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
