The Memorial
The Memorial commemorates all who served at Tarrant Rushton between 1943 and 1980, and comprises three plaques, two on the front, and one at the rear of the stone. The upper one on the front, refers to all who served here, with specific groups mentioned on it. It includes an etched plan of the airfield, RAF and SOE badges, a Pegasus representing British and Commonwealth Airborne Forces, Polish Parachute Brigade wings, and a badge of the US 101st Airborne Division. Beneath this is a Horsa glider carved into the stone.
The second plaque below refers to those of 298 and 644 Squadrons of the RAF, and "C" Squadron of the Glider Pilot Regiment whose aircraft a Halifax, is depicted towing a Hamilcar glider.
The third plaque at the rear of the stone has badges of both the RN and FAA and commemorates all of the Royal Navy and Fleet Air Arm personnel who served here between 1943 - 1945.
