King Richard's last stand
The centre of the photograph is believed to be the site of Richard III's death at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. Contemporary doccuments state that Richard, after charging towards Henry Tudor was driven into marshy ground where he was surrounded and killed by Lancastrian troops. After extensive research, including soil sampling, it was proved that the corner of this field next to the present day Fenn Lanes was considerably wetter in the 15th century than it is today. Together, with the finds evidence, this supports the theory that this site is the most likely place of Richard's demise. See
