Beneath Kinder Downfall
Kinder Scout, Peak District, Derbyshire
Scanned from a print taken from an original 35mm colour transparency.
This scene – one of my all-time favourite pictures from my earlier hillwalking days – is on Kinder Scout, and was taken when a friend and I were exploring among the rocks beneath the famous Kinder Downfall. Too cold to hang around for long, I seized this opportunity for a picture before moving on, only to realise minutes later that the shutter speed on my camera had for some reason been set at 1/15th second. I expected nothing more than a blurred unrecognisable picture as a result, so was pleasantly surprised when my processed colour slides were returned.
