The site of the former trackbed near milepost 8, a few hundred yards east of Bratton Fleming Station. This high embankment was known as Bratton Bank, and falls sharply away on either side as the line crosses the gap between two hillsides. It is not obvious from the photo, but the trackbed is climbing away from the photographer at 1 in 50, a gradient which ruled almost the whole route as it climbed from sea level, and up onto Exmoor.
The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway was a 19 mile long narrow gauge railway, which ran across the stunning Exmoor landscape, from 1898, until its closure in 1935.
