Notice at Priestfield Arboretum (2)
Notice at Priestfield Arboretum (2)
This notice is fixed to a gate at the entrance to Priestfield Arboretum off Stony Lane HP16 0DS. It mentions the following:

Path to
Priestfield
Private Arboretum

This arboretum takes its name from Thomas Priest who in 1917 began planting in the former orchard and kitchen garden acquired after the sale of the Harewood Estate. Until his death in 1942, he planted over 400 trees, mostly conifers. The following year, it was sold to Marcel Porn and still remains in the ownership of his family. After falling into disrepair, a massive scrub clearance took place in 1983. Since then, maintenance and replanting has continued to this day. The Arboretum is opened on two Sundays in the year, one in May and the other in October, with guided tours taking place on both days.
