SO1713 : Garnlydan Reservoir Spillway

taken 5 years ago, near to Beaufort, Blaenau Gwent, Wales

Garnlydan Reservoir Spillway
Garnlydan Reservoir Spillway
The reservoir constructed in the early 18th century and later expanded to 20 hectares in the 20th century at Garnlydan (or Blaen y Cwm as it is sometimes known) was the result of impounding the headwaters of the River Clydach. Here below the spill weir and dam is the spillway and start of the river as it journeys through the Clydach Gorge to meet the River Usk at Gilwern. There was a farmstead on the right called Blaen Clydach but it is long gone.
