Learmont Drysdale Memorial Cairn
Learmont Drysdale Memorial Cairn
The memorial cairn sits atop Damhead Rig and is to the memory of Scottish composer George John Learmont Drysdale (who was related to Thomas the Rhymer through his mother). His sister Janey who lived at Hannel Bog cottage nearby had a cairn erected (no date available). This current cairn replaces the original and has a stone plaque on the north face which reads, Learmont Drysdale, Composer, 1866 - 1909'. There is also a notebook in a rusty steel box, contained within several plastic bags and held down by a large stone at the foot of the cairn.

Janey died tragically in a fire at her cottage in April 1949 and was responsible for keeping her brother's memory alive.
