I was puzzled by the milestones in this square
TQ4376 : Old Milestone by the A207, Shooters Hill, is beside the road as one might expect and if not still in the position where it was originally placed, as shown on
19th century maps then just shifted a little to the west to accommodate a modern pelican crossing.

TQ4376 : Old Milestone by the A207, Shooters Hill, Eltham parishare across the road in the churchyard opposite but it was a while before I discovered the 2nd photo with its Ypres plate and had assumed it was the original roadside stone temporarily moved.
There was no 19th century milestone on the south side of the road. I'm guessing this stone was added after WWI as part of the war memorial and just echoes the local Dartford and London Road plates of the original.
