The Liverpool School for the Blind
The Liverpool School for the Blind
The Liverpool School for the Blind was founded in 1791 by Edward Rushton and was the first in Britain, second in the world. It was located in two lodging houses on Commutation Row but in 1800 moved to London Road into a purpose built school building. Unfortunately, this school was demolished in 1851 with the building of Lime Street Station but the railway donated land on Hardman Street and a new classical style building was constructed in 1849-51 which still exists today.
This Wavertree children’s school building was constructed in 1898.
