Hardwick House
Hardwick House
In 1527, the Hardwick Estate was purchased by Richard Lybbe, whose descendants would own the house and estate for the next 203 years. During the mid 1500s, Hardwick hosted Queen Elizabeth 1st on one of her tours of the Kingdom. During the Civil War, Parliamentarians tried to destroy
the house with canon fire – much of the South Wing was destroyed, to be
subsequently rebuilt in 1670. In 1909 Hardwick was sold to Charles Day Rose, later to be awarded a Baronetcy as Sir Charles Day Rose of Hardwick. The Rose family still own the house and estate. Seen from the East, with the edge of the Chilterns as a backdrop.
