High speed train at Dyce
High speed trains (HSTs) have been the frontline express trains on non-electrified routes in the UK for over 40 years but they are now (April 2019) in their last few weeks of operation in their classic areas of use including expresses from Paddington to the west country and cross-country services. 'Short' HSTs (refurbished units consisting of two power cars and four carriages) are now entering service on regional Scottish services and are a huge improvement on class 158 and 170 multiple units despite their age. Here we see a service ready to depart from Dyce bound for Glasgow Queen Street with power car 43136, still not repainted from its former First Great Western livery, leading.
