NY8521 : Lapwing territory

taken 5 years ago, near to Grains o' Th' Beck, County Durham, England

Lapwing territory
Lapwing territory
These rather dreary looking moors are alive with birds in spring. Lapwings are displaying over their territory, curlews are calling, a snipe can be heard drumming, whilst meadow pipits are everywhere. This damp moorland is likely to be on glacial drift material. Becks tend to be quite deeply incised into the rather soft surface, as is the case with Arngill Beck, the course of which can be seen in the middle distance.
