Old lead hushes
Old lead hushes
There has been lead mining activity from the late 18th century for a hundred years or so, but despite extensive exploration by the London Lead Company [based in Middleton in Teesdale] in the 19th century, little of value was found and work abandoned. Of the hushes seen here, only one is said to have revealed galena [lead ore].
