TQ9622 : Site of Wells Farm

taken 5 years ago, 3 km from East Guldeford, East Sussex, England

Site of Wells Farm
Site of Wells Farm
The track once led to a farm located right of centre beyond a small clump of reeds. On East Guldeford's 1839 tithe map only a barn was marked though it was owned by a Samuel Wells. By the time of the 1872 OS map it had become a farm with an extra building which may have been a farmhouse. This extra building and the name had disappeared by the time of the 1929 edition. Depopulation of the marshes has been ongoing for a number of decades and isolated dwellings have been abandoned, within a miles radius of this farm alone Brockman's House, Vane Court, Tressland and the farmhouse at Barn Farm have all gone
