Lune Head lead mine
Two buildings and a few fragments of masonry are all that is left of the Lune Head Mine, which was originally investigated for lead [London Lead Company in the 1880's], but which later diversified into barytes mining from before the turn of the 20th century. The mine ceased production in 1942, which probably accounts for the relatively good condition of the remaining buildings, the nearer of which was the mine shop - not a retail emporium, but a place for miners to stay, whilst the further building may have been the blacksmiths.
