Hackford St. Mary the Virgin church
This pleasant little church is tucked away down a narrow country lane and when I visited was undergoing some interior restoration. Inside the porch is a most unusual canopied pillar stoup, arguably the most interesting object to be found here. The 15th c. octagonal font is decorated with shields representing the Trinity and saints. At the eastern end of the nave behind the pulpit is another curiosity. The rood stairs are simply a set of steps built against the wall with a newel post once supporting a handrail. Close by are two canopied niches set into the chancel arch. Within the chancel a simple angle piscina opening into the dropped-sill sedilia. The Royal Arms are pre-1801 Hanoverian.
