Inside the disused Dudfleet Mill
Inside the disused Dudfleet Mill
No trespass was committed here - the photo was taken looking through a hole in the external wall as can be seen in SE2917 : The disused Dudfleet Mill.

This site started as a water mill c.1795 owned by John Race and Co. for spinning and cloth manufacture but was attacked by the Luddites in 1812. A later (steam powered) mill building was erected by the Shaw family of Horbury c.1823 for the manufacture of worsted cloth. After 1954, the mill produced carpets, until 1964 when the original mill building was demolished along with the chimney and workers' cottages. Remaining 20th century buildings were used again from 1969-2005 for textile manufacture. What is left is increasingly derelict.
