Wayside cross, Sarsfieldstown, Co. Meath
This cross, dated to 1480-1513, is on an old loop of the Dublin to Drogheda road, cut off by a realignment in the mid-20th century. Figure sculpture on each side and Latin inscription around the base which reads: Archbishop Octavian, Primate of all Ireland, has granted an indulgence in perpetuity, to every penitent, as often as they shall devoutly say an Our Father, and a Hail Mary, for the souls of Christopher Barnewall; Kt, and Elizabeth Plunket, and all the faithful departed. The cross is a National Monument in State care.
