J3474 : Lagan weir and footbridge

taken 5 years ago, near to Belfast, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland

Lagan weir and footbridge
Lagan weir and footbridge
The footbridge was built in 2015 to replace a much narrower bridge at this point (see J3474 : Footbridge over the Lagan). The weir gates immediately upstream from the bridge (five in all) are deployed to ensure that the river upstream is not subject to tidal fluctuations. The tower block in the background is "The Boat" comprising ten floors of office space, topped by four floors housing eight luxury apartments.
