The wooden truss footbridge that allows access to the East Beach at Lossiemouth was closed off on the 25th of July 2019 after developing a sag to one side. Despite engineers seeking temporary repair solutions, these have been unsuccessful. Matters are complicated by the fact that no one actually owns the bridge.
The day after the closure of the bridge 30 people that had waded across the River Lossie at low tide to gain access to the beach had to be rescued by the Buckie RNLI lifeboat and Coastguard after the tide came in.
A sign indicates the nearest access to the East Beach is via Arthurs Bridge, 3 miles away.
The bridge was rebuilt in 1918. The Lossiemouth Community Development Trust are seeking crowdfunding to rebuild the bridge.
