Clock Tower, Fore Street, Redruth
Grade II Listed clock tower and lock-up. The town clock has stood on or very near this site for a long time, certainly since the 1700's. The partly wood built tower was replaced in 1828, the first erected in the county with illuminated dials. The open arches were closed for use as Police cells in 1841. With increasingly higher surrounding buildings the tower was extended in 1904 so that, reputedly, the miners living at the top of the town could see the time; also chimes were added.
