SD6299 : Fairmile Road

taken 5 years ago, near to Lowgill, Cumbria, England

Fairmile Road
Fairmile Road
This route is well attested as that of a Roman road from Low Borrowbridge fort to Sedbergh, proving that not all Roman roads were dead straight. Until the present A685 was built on the other side of the valley, this was the main road between Kendal and Penrith, and ultimately between England and Scotland. It now carries little motor traffic but forms part of National Cycle Route 68.
