A view of the small fort immediately north of the central section of Plymouth Breakwater.
Work commenced on the fort in 1861 with the foundations completed by 1865. It was another fourteen years before the first gun was installed but by 1880 the fort was fully armed with either 18 or 24 guns depending on the source consulted.
The fort is a Scheduled Monument - and its EH write-up LinkExternal link gives a lot more details.
Compare this little fort with SZ6397 : Spitbank Fort built in the Solent around the same time.
