TQ2104 : River Adur from the air
taken 5 years ago, near to Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, England
The river was formerly navigable for large vessels up as far as Steyning, where there was a large port, but over time the river valley became silted up and the port moved down to the deeper waters nearer the mouth in Shoreham-by-Sea. Link
The Shoreham footbridge connects the A259 Shoreham High Street / Brighton Road (opposite the end of East Street) to Lower Beach Road on Shoreham Beach. It provides a useful link for pedestrians and cuts about 1.5 miles off the alternative route via the main roads.
It has been replaced with a new footbridge, The Adur Ferry Bridge, which was opened to the public by HRH The Duke of Gloucester on 13th November 2013
