Sugar Loaf Mountain from the Duburren Road
Sugar Loaf Mountain from the Duburren Road
This singular peak on Sturgan Mountain was the site of British Army watchtower Romeo-One-One-Alpha. The rule of thumb with the watch towers was that if you could see them, they could certainly see you and would more likely than not be monitoring your movement and conversation. Sturgan Mountain and the Sugar Loaf Hill are part of the Ring of Gullion. The telephone poles are on the B134 (Mountain Road).
