Booth's Hill, Off Abbey Road, Ramsey, Cambs.
This footbridge, visible from the junction of Hollow Lane and Abbey Road, spans a former moat. This is associated with a nearby mound that could possibly have been the site of a small motte and bailey castle (c.1140) or have been created by the dumping of spoil arising from the digging out of some adjacent ‘abbey-supplying’ fishponds. The mound however, was altered in the past to allow for the building of an ice house, possibly in the C19th and although overgrown the exterior of the ice house can be viewed by following a path on the far side of this bridge. Residential housing on the opposite side of Abbey Road overlooks this area. Abbey Road is a short cul-de-sac leading to and from Abbey College.
