Hetty Shaft steam winding engine
Hetty Shaft steam winding engine
Built 1875 by Barker & Cope of Kidsgrove, Staffordshire. Rebuilt by Worsley Mesnes Ironworks with their piston expansion valves. Can be operated on compressed air, which is how it was worked for the last few years in service until stopped in 1983. It is seen here on one of its annual operating weekends. A group has been formed to preserve the engine and visitors are welcome.
